On the 22nd of April 2009 the students and staffs of the School of Computer Science and Technology, Karunya University witnessed an interactive session organized by the SUN Java club of the school of CST as a part of the world wide voluntary week. The event included a live demo on Java FX and a technical talk on cloud computing delivered by Mr.Srinidhi Nirgunda , Senior open source evangelist. He introduced cloud computing and then further elaborated with regard to the infrastructure, software, platform, databases and storage as services, the concepts of utility with the efficiency and agility of applications.
Mr.Nirgunda explained how cloud computing addressed uncertainties and handled unpredicted traffic. He balanced out several pros and cons stating that data protection and lock-in situations could be inherent dangers.
The talk aimed at analyzing changing IT relationships by discussing how developers and deployers think, current states and trends and the key traits of cloud such as self provisioning virtualized physical control, programmatic control and elasticity.
He illustrated several application domains: HPC, Medical Intelligence, Finance, Analytics, Web etc. He spoke of the changing software, data and management economics and proposed Sun’s cloud computing strategy.
The talk was followed by a live demo of Java FX which fascinated the audience. Java FX is a rich application platform that facilitates 2D and 3D animation. He pointed the GUI applications could be written faster with Java FX as he described a few graphics basics. The demonstration boosted and encouraged budding developers to explore the domain of graphics and animation.
